Candlewood Suites Detroit - Auburn Hills, an IHG Hotel

This hotel was conveniently located for me, only a 1/2 mile from my destination. Concierge was friendly during check in and check out, the room was clean and nice, and the thermostat and water temperature/pressure worked great (a different experience from some of my coworkers who stayed in other nearby hotels). The bedding was surprisingly soft and the bed was comfortable. I didn’t use any of the amenities or have breakfast or room service so I can’t speak to that, but I would definitely stay here again if I’m back in the area.

The hotel accommodations themselves were very comfortable — the beds were plush with nice bedding, the toiletries were good quality, the kitchen was well stocked with useful items, and the pool area was great for families. Unfortunately, the experience was overshadowed by some disappointing interactions with the manager. A few weeks before our stay, I called to ask about booking two rooms together for a family wedding. The woman who answered seemed impatient from the start. When I asked about adjoining rooms, she said that wasn’t an option. I clarified that nearby rooms would also be fine, but she stated that they couldn’t promise that. I then tried to ask a more specific question about room types—whether booking two different types would automatically prevent the rooms from being near each other. Instead of answering, she repeated the same statement that rooms couldn’t be promised together, which didn’t address my question. The interaction felt unnecessarily curt and unhelpful. When we checked in at 3 p.m. (the posted check-in time), the same voice from the phone call met me and appeared to be the manager, she informed me that our reserved room wasn’t ready but offered to downgrade us to a smaller room without a dining table—without clearly explaining the change or offering an apology or even an acknowledgment of the inconvenience. We accepted simply to avoid further delay and frustration. Later, when I went to the front desk to ask for pool towels for our group of kids that were not stocked at the pool, she again responded rudely, saying, “No, we don’t have any.” Thankfully, another staff member stepped in, brought towels within minutes, and did so with a smile which was appreciated. The property itself is very comfortable and well-maintained, but the management’s communication and tone could benefit from a bit more warmth and hospitality to match. My only other note would be that “restaurant” is listed as a hotel amenity on google maps at least— there is a snack bar with items for purchase but no restaurant on site.

This is a very neat, modern and clean place to stay. The rooms are spacious and the bed was most comfortable. The staff was pleasant and accommodating. I would have liked a continental breakfast, but I understand that isn't possible here. They do have food and drink items for sale. I would definitely stay here again. They are pet friendly.

Everything was perfect. Our stay couldn’t have been better. The hotel was very clean, staff were super friendly and helpful, the room was spacious and had way more amenities than we actually needed as a family of four with a pet. All other hotel amenities were also great like the pool, gym facilities, free parking, free wifi, smart tvs (only casting, no remote-controled apps), etc. Again, the staff was great and very hospitable and even the maintenance team were amazing. Will truly love to stay again here if we return to the Detroit area.

Booked this for our travel hockey group. The GM Stacey was very helpful and accommodating frim the very start When our group checked in it was very hectic but Hope was very organized and pleasant. She was available for anyone that needed anything the entire weekend. I could not of asked for a better stay.

We booked a block of rooms here for after my wedding. The rooms were spacious and clean. The guest services were very nice and helpful regardless of the time of day. We also booked their shuttle and it was a huge help getting guests to and from our venue which made it easy for everyone to enjoy their night. They were always on time and helpful.

I stayed at the Candlewood Suites Detroit Auburn Hills for over three months, and I genuinely couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From day one to the very end, the customer service was exceptional. The hotel was always clean, felt very safe, and the staff consistently went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable. Steve, the manager, truly sets the tone for the hotel. He was always personable and welcoming, I never walked past his office without being greeted, which meant more than he probably realized. Laura at the front desk was incredibly professional and friendly, and coming back to the hotel always felt like coming home because of her. It was clear she had the same positive impact on many other guests, and she plays a huge role in creating that “home away from home” atmosphere. Mike, the engineer, consistently went above and beyond to help with unique needs, and it’s obvious how much he cares about the guests and the property. Rosa from housekeeping made me feel like I was the only guest in the hotel. She took such pride in her work and always made sure my room was a place where I could truly relax and unwind. Being away from my family for an extended period isn’t easy, but the staff here made it feel far less lonely. Their kindness and care made a real difference in my day-to-day life. I’ve already shared my experience with my company so we can continue doing business with this location in the future. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a place that truly values its guests.

Love this hotel! I stay here whenever I’m in town which is pretty regularly. I even am sure to check for other Candlewood locations when traveling to other places and am excited when I see the city I’m traveling to has a Candlewood. Today when checking out of the Auburn Hills location, it started pouring rain. The woman at the desk, Holly, offered an umbrella while we went to get our car which was so appreciated. She was so kind and happy and friendly. Thanks a lot, Holly!!
